21-08-2019 \\ England and Wales
A couple of weeks ago several members from the England and Wales section of the Committee for a Workers’ International were fortunate enough to attend the Youth Against Racism in Europe anti-fascist summer camp, organised by Xekinima, the Greek section of the CWI.
The camp was a fantastic week of political discussion, activist workshops and entertainment, all taking place on a beach on the Ionian Sea.
The topics up for discussion ranged from the looming environmental disaster and how capitalism is failing the planet, to how to organise and combat the far-right. Workshops were also quite varied, from Art Against Fascism to self-defence sessions.
Around 300 people attended during the week and whilst many of these people were from Greece and Cyprus, there were also members present from Turkey, Belgium, Germany, the US and a large contingent from Ireland, alongside those of us from England and Wales. We were told by Andros, a leading member of Xekinima, that they had signed up 20 new members over the course of the week.
This truly was a great week which gave comrades from across Europe the opportunity to discuss ideas, get updated on the work of some of our sister organisations and to relax and socialise together. The camp really gave a flavour of the genuine internationalism within our ranks. I would highly recommend any CWI member to think about attending this camp next year.
